While I am not a certified Reno legal video specialist, I have performed a variety of legal videography services to aid in investigations, discovery and depositions for court cases and litigation.
Depositions
As a legal videographer, I capture depositions for discovery in the legal process. A deposition is a sworn, out-of-court witness testimony that can be used in the discovery phase of a legal case.
Video Authenticity Analysis
In 2019, I was asked by Jesse Kalter Law to examine iPhone videos and photos to determine if they had been altered to remove content from the beginning or end of the video. To do this, I examined the video file metadata to match the timestamps and export render settings with the date of capture and the known render settings of the device on which they were captured.
Video Courtroom Exhibit
I was asked by John Shaw Consulting, LLC to analyze two video samples that purported to show remote inspection footage of the same section of sewer pipe. I was asked to present these two video clips in a two-up video that could be presented in court. The purpose was to give Mr. Shaw the ability to present an exhibit in court that clearly showed that the two clips were clearly not of the same section of sewer pipe but had been mislabeled in the field.
Surveilance Image Metadata analysis and Preparation for Courtroom Presentation
In 2019, I was asked by Spencer Investigations, a private investigation agency in Reno, NV, to verify the metadata showing the date and time of capture of surveillance footage, then create on-screen text elements designed to replicate the on-screen date and time stamp of older camcorders.
iPhone Image Metadata Expert Witness
In 2019, I was asked by Jesse Kalter Law to act as an expert witness in a court case in Lyon County, NV. My role was to explain to the court that images on a witness's phone had been deleted and were not recoverable. I did this by reviewing all the images from the time of the relevant incident and noting the file names and that there were images missing from the file name sequencing. I also determined that they were not in the recently deleted image directory, indicating that they had either been purged from that list manually or had been deleted more than 30 days in the past.
