I’ve been working with Craft AutoWorks for a while and was recently asked to shoot a tour of one of their recent van builds.
Craft AutoWorks is a premium vehicle up fitter based in Reno, Nevada, that specializes in #vanlife travel vans for people to live nomadic lifestyles or just the weekend warrior life on the road. They specialize in Mercedes Sprinter Van conversions, including suspension, armor and racks, interior living upgrades, and high-tech power systems.
For this product video shoot, I set up an interview in their shop, which is in an older industrial part of Reno. We blacked out their windows for a dark look; then I lit Chase, the lead designer, and engineer at Craft AutoWorks, with an LED light with a softbox for some dramatic shadows. Behind the van, I placed another LED light shining starkly on the vehicle to give it some rad backlighting.
I shot most of the B-Roll and interiors with the gimbal and the camera at high frame rates so I could slow it down for a dreamy smooth look. Videos like these are a challenge because the client always has much more they want to say than will fit in the length of video they want for the final product. During editing, I try to cut what isn’t necessary and keep the essential elements so that viewers have a good understanding of the product or service but stay engaged to the end and click or call to learn more.
Website Videos are great lead generators
Don’t forget you don’t have to get everything across in a product video for your website. you need to primarily get the attention, stimulate the customer’s imagination, and leave them wanting more so that they keep looking at the website, watching other videos, and hopefully filling out your contact form or calling you up.
