I’m not a huge sports guy, but the one sport I was good at when I was a kid was baseball. So I was stoked when I was hired to shoot a video promo in Reno for the National Championship Sports Ultimate Youth Baseball World Series in Reno back in July.
This was a one-day event video shoot in Reno and Sparks that I shot with my son Bowie. He ran PA duty carrying equipment and generally being helpful, but he also shot a few clips that made it into the final edit from the morning shoot at Golden Eagle Park in Sparks, NV.
I used my Sony a7siii on a DJI Ronin Gimbal for the fluid, floating shots in the edit for this shoot. I find that it’s a little redundant and tedious to have an entire video shot with a gimbap, so I also had a Sony FX3 on a handheld rig for this shoot. The handheld camera was shooting through a 70-200 lens, so I was able to get some dramatic closeups of the players and action.
I was also able to fly a drone to get some dynamic aerial imagery for these shoots.
The second part of the shoot was at the Reno Sports Complex, and I captured the action in much the same way there.
If you’re looking to capture a sports event with video or any event, I have a ton of experience using videography and creative video editing to capture the essence of an event. Just drop me a line!
